So you’re trying to decide which movie to go check out this weekend, right?  Well, are you into psychological thrillers?  If so, you should know that Splice director Vincenzo Natali is responsible for writing and directing 1997’s Cube, one of the greatest psychological thrillers of all time.  Also, Pan’s Labyrinth creator Guillermo del Toro is the executive producer, and he is a master when it comes to creepy (yet alluring) creatures.

Needless to say, I’m thinkin Splice will be a good bet.  It opens this weekend so if you check it out, stop back and tell us what you think.

Sit, Cameron, sit!

According to an article in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the way we name our pets has changed drastically over the years.  No longer are names like Fido and Rover suitable.  Nowadays, we’re playing fetch with Cameron, Charlie and Hannah.

The author, Helena Oliviero,  implies that the reason is that owners have been developing a much deeper bond with their dogs and cats.  In the article she states…

Seventy percent of dog owners (and 65 percent of cat owners) said they consider their dog a full-fledged family member, according to a recent survey by the American Pet Products Association. Dogs and cats get dressed up for Halloween and buckled up in the car during drives. About 7 percent of dog owners and 5 percent of cat owners throw birthday parties for their beloved pets, according to the association.

One reason for the increased closeness is the fact that we’re waiting until much later in life to have children and our pets are pretty much our “surrogate” children, for the time being.

Does it sound like the author is on to something?  She may have a point in regards to people waiting until later in life to have children.  It makes sense that they would want to fill that void somehow.

Of course all of the extra love that our pets are recieving does have added benefits for some.  Local dog walker and pet sitter, Brianna Brown, stated that “the warmer relationship between people and pets is good for business. It means more people want to hire a caretaker instead of boarding them at a kennel.
